Rosa with books

A few weeks ago, a couple of boxes with books arrived at our headquarters that our friend Rosita Vásquez sent us from Lima: Encyclopedias, dictionaries, literature, law and educational books that have already been distributed among the library families of the Network, who they will benefit from their reading and study.

In the path

We are going through a difficult stage. It is also a call to value life and to give thanks for all that we have inherited from our grandparents.

It is a time to reflect on the way we behave with our beloved land, how much we value the customs and the work of our brothers and sisters in the field. It is not a question of words: it is living and keeping the community alive.

At the beginning of March we had the Assembly of our Network, concerned about reviewing our activities, but also with the intention of enjoying the reunion, that magic of knowing that we are deeply united and cared for as a family and community.

It was as always very pleasant to have the presence of librarians and coordinators, who came from far away bringing the lively spirit and, with great pride, what their chacritas (farms) produce, to share all together.

May that refined charm always remain, pleasing like the flavour of potatoes and ollucos;  granulated like rice, coffee and wheat; delicious like cocoa and tomatoes; luminous like corn and oranges; tender like bread and cheese.

May the humility of wisdom continue to fill us; may the contagious be the good bearer of dreams and certainties, to always awaken laborious and beautiful.

Thanks to all the community members; Thanks to our brother Alfredo for his optimism, for giving us classes in true brotherhood, for making us understand that we are nobody if we are not able to understand and put ourselves in the place of others.

Featured Readers

It is a source of great joy to know that children, youth, adults, men, and women of the Cajamarca region, stand out for increasing not only the number of books read, but also for strengthening community reading practices: they read for others, they read with others, they read between all. The readings and the listeners of the Network are very rich and diverse.

Reading circles

The constant realization of the Reading Circles is hard work carried out by our reading communities, in which not only campesinos and community members take part, but also teachers and students of educational institutions that have rural libraries.

Although all the communities carry out their Reading Circles, today we highlight some that, due to the number of meetings held, stand out: the Rural Libraries at the Higher Pedagogical Institute and at the Sagrado Corazón Educational Institution, in Jaén; the various communities in the sector of San Marcos, Pomabamba and Celendín.

Last year we celebrated 25 years of the Community Program. And we continue celebrating with Ñaupa!

Transcribing in the PEC

Reading and transcribing the Rescue Notebooks of the Campesino Encyclopedia Project, I begin to understand more that, previously, the customs of the peasant were much more unifying.

The fact of loving the earth and defending it is something gratifying. Now we are changing even in our way of expressing ourselves, of wanting, even in our parties, our dances, even the couplets are being lost and being replaced by others that do not identify us within our culture.

The writings of the companions of the province of Jaén, which also belong to the Network, where they mention the following text:

it seems like a sun to me.

We all have something that we value very much, that we love and always want to protect, even though it does not have any importance for others: for us it will always be what strengthens us and fills us with joy.
